Registration
Under the act, the council must keep a register in which all medical practitioners’ pharmacists and dentists are registered with their name’s qualifications and addresses. Registration in the medical register is mandatory for any practitioner to practice medicine in Sudan; Failure to do that is punishable as it contravenes the act.
Licensing Examinations
SMC holds regularly licensing examinations for all medical graduates on successful completion of the prescribed internship period as decided by the SMC for medical, pharmacy and dental graduates, and passing the licencing examination they are transferred to the full registration.
Sudan National Formuary
The SMC publishes and makes available to all medical practitioners, dentists and pharmacists the Sudan. The SNF is a reference book that lists all the medicines routinely stocked in the country, their indications, contraindications, precautions on use, and comments on the diseases on which they are used.
SMC Disciplinary System
SMC standing disciplinary committees comprise complaints, ethical conduct, penalties and appeal committees; investigates any complaint against a medical practitioner, a pharmacist or a dentist whether about inappropriate medical practice or misconduct; it also investigates complaints against healthcare institutions that come to its notice.
